GalaxiFEST 2026

The seventh edition of Galaxian Recordings' online festival, and the fourth one to span three days. It's also the only one to date that matches GalaxiFEST 2023 in terms of sheer performer count - including the "36th" technicality! The visual theme of "cruise ship" was more or less made up on the spot earlier that year, but will still be showcased like something that was planned from "earlier".

This page (like most others on this site), along with all personal comments i.e. anything referring to "me" or "I", are written by the webmaster and graphic designer, Riako - others' comments will be marked accordingly (゜▽゜) As such, the majority of the commentary will be about the graphic design (with other details to be added later, hopefully).

The performers

There were actually a few people on Ryuko's invite list that ended up not being able to participate, for health reasons or otherwise. (who?)

The theme

While Ryuko was originally considering a cyberpunk or motorcycle racing theme (key note; he was VERY into Megazone 23 at that time!), I came up with "cruise ship" out of nowhere, and we ended up just running with it. I asked Hrusa to include two very specific details in this year's Galaxi-chan illustration - an oversized sailor-style scarf, and Noc-tan turned into a Labubu-like mascot - and he delivered!

Have you ever watched videos of people going on Disney cruises? While boarding, they pass by a "welcome crew" that gives a round of applause for all the people boarding that day - though sometimes the person or family is shouted out by last name over a loudspeaker as well. (Maybe for the higher-paying families?) The promos were sort of meant to invoke that. Also, check out the chibi Galaxi-chan, with probably the most changes I've made to her "base model" since I first drew her this way!

The stream overlay was designed a bit like a stage for "on-board entertainment" - I was actually watching a tour video of the Disney Adventure ship in Singapore, to try and push me over the persistent art block that stretched graphic design out until literal days before GF2026 was scheduled to start.

In summary

2026 was a burnout year, for sure; no new music was released and no Nocturne Rave events were held (IRL or online) since NR: Collision in February. In the ashes of previous years, still we slowly trudged through; I only said no new music was released. Ryuko made a lot of guest appearances at various events that year, and took some new material from the both of us with him (mostly remixes).

When GalaxiFEST 2026 ended, Ryuko got approximately zero rest as he immediately had to think about Nocturne Rave: White Night - an IRL event announced in the middle of GF2026 promos, set to happen less than 2 weeks from the last day of GF2026. Maybe "slow start" isn't just a gimmicky/unviable ability?
